New jersey man sentenced to three years in prison for courthouse assault of u.S. marshals

NEWARK, N.J. – Wydove Brown, 41, of East Orange, N.J., was sentenced today to 36 months in prison for assaulting and resisting deputy marshals of the U.S. Marshals Service during a June 2010 Newark federal court proceeding, U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman announced.
Brown previously pleaded guilty to an Indictment charging him with one count of forcibly assaulting, resisting, opposing and interfering with three deputy marshals while they were engaged in the performance of their official duties. Brown entered his guilty plea before U.S. District Judge Susan D. Wigenton, who also imposed the sentence today in Newark federal court.
According to documents filed in this case and statements made in court:
The judge ordered the marshals to remove Brown from the courtroom during the June 9, 2010, court proceeding. Brown admitted to forcibly kicking, shoving and moving his body in resistance to the marshals once he was escorted outside the courtroom. He also acknowledged that he disregarded multiple verbal commands from the marshals to stop resisting.
Brown admitted that he fell to the ground after resisting the marshals, and in the process, a marshal suffered a broken hand.
In addition to the prison term, Judge Wigenton sentenced Brown to three years of supervised release.
U.S. Attorney Fishman credited deputy marshals of the USMS, under the direction of U.S. Marshal Juan Mattos Jr., with the investigation leading to today’s sentence.
